A natural question might be what are the benefits to using essential oils in your life? The answer is many.
Natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical wellbeing are also known as “essential oils”.
The inhaled aroma (also known as Aromatherapy) from these “essential” oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Some essential oils can help you relax or sleep fighting off insomnia. For example, lavender is a widely used oil that can be inhaled before bedtime or rubbed on the soles of your feet to induce a relaxation.
Some essential oils can be administered orally to help stimulate digestion like peppermint oil with some warm water or herbal tea. Many essential oils can be applied topically to ease inflammation and alleviate pain like Wintergreen, Spruce or Ginger.
Essential oils with antiseptic and antifungal properties are also used to disinfect and heal cuts, abrasions and other wounds and skin conditions like Tea Tree oil. Tea Tree has helped with Athlete’s foot, yellowing nails, cracked skin, dandruff, bites, rashes or chest congestion.
Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.
They have been known to relieve headaches, treat acne, help with gum disease and aid digestion but that’s just the beginning.
They can be used for perfumes, skin & hair regimens, food recipes, household cleaning products, mental clarity, psychological well being and physical ailments.
A form of alternative medicine, essential oils are gaining quite the momentum.
There are a wide number of essential oils each with its own healing and multifunctional
properties and I encourage you to learn and grow with them ALL.
A Note from Jenn:
When I started using essential oils it was originally just to relax. One of my best friends who is an aesthetician always had Lavender oil diffusing at her spa. She would whip up facial masks and skin treatments where she blended oils into everything and back then it was all hocus-pocus to me. But, I liked the way they smelled and they seemed to work.
After countless times of her saying, “You really should get a few oils for yourself” I finally took a peek into what she was talking about.
Today, I couldn’t imagine life without my daily use of the rainbow that is essential oils. Today a lemon infused facial wash, a lavender and tea tree toner and a Thieves (a Living Young blend) rinse after flossing are all part of my daily routine. I sip on warm water and lemon oil before breakfast and a lot of times put peppermint oil in my protein shakes before jumping in the car. It’s refreshing a great for digestion.
I use my oils on myself and on my clients. I make gifts for family and friends. I use them in cooking. I use them for health & beauty remedies. I have a creative and beneficial relationship with them that is ever learning and growing. It is a way of life for me just like yoga is. The oils will fit nicely into wellness, home, beauty and vitality.
If you would like to buy essential oils and use the ones that I have grown fond of, here are the steps.
I originally started with Young Living essential oils and have used them since. I can attest to the makeup and integrity of their product. However, I also used other great oils when I come across them. As long as you use a 100% pure essential oil you should be fine.
It cannot be stressed often enough how important it is to use pure, natural, authentic essential oils. When selecting essential oils do your homework before making a decision.
As well, always do your research to learn about how to apply oils, what oils are safe for ingestion, and possible reactions you could have.
